Prioraties Come First

In college prioratizing the important from the unimportant can be a difficult task at times. Everyone in college is there for a reason, to obtain a dream or a goal. But many people are illprepared for there task at hand: by either being a procrastinaator, not being organized, or would rather party with friends. When entering college you need to be focused and realize what responsibility and prioratizing is.
Many people , including myself, like to wait to the last minute to do something. Even if they have known about the task for weeks in advance. It's part lazziness and lack of motivation. In some cases, including mine, it doesn't always mean the task isn't a success. Many people work well under pressure, they may even do their best work during these times. The reality of it all is that if you would have started the assingment or task when given, you could have inhanced your chances greatly of a more successful outcome. Because you would have had more time to focus and reflect on the task at hand as opposed to cramming it in last minute. Not truly squeezing all the juice out of the orange.
A planner is great when starting college, just to insure you are on top of your game. By being able to stay ahead of test, quizzes, and exams will increase your chances of success greatly. Some people can scrape by without a planner though. Like myself, I am a mix between an unorganized and organized. But I tend to get by okay, sometimes losing my keys along the way though. What ever your method of organizatoion is: a planner, post it notes, memorization, or playing it by ear. Make sure you experiment with different stratigies till you find something that works. Because this will further your chances of college success
When your sitting at home attempting to study, not really wanting to in the first place. When a friend calls and wants you to go get a drink, play video games , or whatever it is that you that you and your friends do. Now it's one thing if you have plenty of time to get your task done in the lotted time But if this is a last minute thing, you need to put on your thinking cap and be rational with responsibility. Those brief moments with your friends can be a blast, but is it worth jeopordizing your chance to obtain your career inyour hands.
Many people come to college expecting it to one big party. Granted it is what you make. You can choose to do the right things that will lead you to a path of success or you can go off the beatin path , which your chances of success are slim to none. So, go to class everyday organized and prepared, listen to your instructor, stay ahead of your assignments, and make the right decision when it comes to school and your social life

My Own Personal ExperienceWith Beginning Back a Freshmen

Forrest Gump hit the money shot when he said " life is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one your gonna get." I have most definitly found this to be true coming back to school this semester. In order to get back in school this semester I had to work my ass off. Due to being on suspension fron last time I was in school , I had to write a essay to the school on why I should be accepted. Then I had to get all my financial information and forms in order. Lastly, I had to wait in line to register for classes. I had every intention of doing well in school but little did I know what the year 2010 would have in store for me: gettig a second dui in six minths, a very close friend of the family dying, having to find an move into a new place, and deal with the fact that I am bi-polar and have been unmedicated most of the semester.
Towards the end of August of 2009 I got into a car wreck and badly injured my chest, shoulder, and got two bruises on my brain from my head against the windshield. I had been drinking that night , but thats not why I was getting ready to face a dui. Because I was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medicine, not that I was over the legal limit. But the fact that I mixed the two they were gonna get me. I even told the judge after the fact that I could come up with a doctors note and that did not matter. As I am dealing with the fact that I am getting a dui, I am also preparing for school to begin. Little did I know that a few weeks before school began that I would be pulled over in my neighborhood for a second dui. After blowing into the breathalizer, that cop looked at me in amazement. Because I was a carrying on a perfectly good conversation with him after blowing what I blew. Safe to say I went to jail without passing go. I ended up serving two weeks in jail. Went to court after that second week and got released but was convicted of two dui first, got an almost 1,800 dollar fine, lost my liscence for a year, and had to serve the next two weekends in jail.
After getting home and settled in, my grandma's boyfriend dies at sixty-eight. He had been sick since thanksgiving of 2009, but being the old stubborn man he was he fefused to go to the hospital. Well, after my grandma begging him he finally agreed to go. The next morning my granny went to pick George up, but he wouldn't answer the door. After the neighbor kicked his door in, she found him lying on the floor. My granny and the coroner determined that fluid had went to George's heart(which he had already problems with) and caused him to go into cardiac arrest. I was really sad for my granny because George was her best friend ,they talked everyday. My grandfather and George's wife died the same year. This is why their bond was so tight.
After getting back from Paducah, which is where my granny lives. I had to begin the stressful process of looking for a new place to live for me and my dogs. I own a rottweiller and a wiener dog. They are both good dogs but the rottweiller causes problems when it comes time to find a place to live. Rottweillers are considered a viscious breed and are deemed insurance liabilities. Therefore not many landlords want to rent to me and because of this I usually have to jump on the first place that will take me. This a lot of times means taking a horrid place. I moved into my new place the second week of school. It was acceptable for the most part accept for the carpet, which had been urined on heavily by a dog that lived here before me. Unfortunately, they made me live here for a little over a week before they finally changed the carpet. This whole concept of moving wouldn't have even been brought up if I hadn't been driving my cousins car the night I got pulled over for my second dui. My cousin is graduating eku this summer with a bachelors degree in criminal justice with hopes of being a police officer. He is interning this semester at the police department. Because I got pulled over in his car with his gun in the glovebox, he almost lost his intern. Which inturn would have made him not to be able to graduate as scheduled and have to wait to be a police officer.
Once I started school the second week it seemed as though nothing else could go wrong. But little did I estimate that something that I had been battling with my whole life would come to haunt me yet again. I am bi-polar, add, and an insomniac, when combined can be a dangerous combination. I am currently being treated in Covington,Ky. because I have found nobody in Lexington that treats with one of the medications I am on. Because I had wrecked my car in Dec. of 2009 it had become hard for me to see my doctor. Because of going unmedicated I ultimately have had to drop out of all but one class. Which will not effect my academic probation, but could hinder my chances of getting financial aid the following semester.
Andre 3000 from the hip hop group outkast said it best when he said "Life never lived up to my expectations, so I except the patience. Expect the best, but now pacing inside I am melting like water on wicked wichtes. I had the best of life in my clinches but monkey wrinches were throne". We can always hope for the best, but are many times going into things blind and do not antiscipate the problems that could reveal themselves. Thinking ahead and preperation can be key in following dreams and obtaining goals. But if illprepared failure could be expected, especially if you are making blantent wrong decisions going into certain situations. So always think about and be prepared for key moments in your life. Always hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

More Ways To Deal With Freshmen Collegiate Life

College life as a freshmen can be very stressful, hectic, and confusing. But
what one needs to realize is that this is a major step forward towards realizing and
obtaining your career. If one isn't mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared,
you could fail. Three techniques to grasp this success are: utilize the support at
school or find study groups, find proper times and places for you to study and do
homework, and fit some time in your busy schedule to relax and reflect.

Many if not all colleges offer many support services. Such as, tutoring,
disability services, tuition assistance, housing asssistance, etc. These services are
put here for us as students to take advantage of to help relieve many problems tnat
could be considered stressful. Another way to gain suuport is through finding a steady and consistant study group. Because, to not only help eachother out with school work but also discuss and support eachothers issues. Also, many others including myself find religion to be very supporting and burden relieving.
Next, would be to realize and find times and places that are best for one to study. People have different strategies for studying. Some people study best directly after school, some after taking a nap, others study best while the kids are in bed, and many can study anytime.Ideally, someplace quite is generally the way to go when it comes to studying. But there can be many methods:some like to be surrounded by nature, others like to listen to music, and others like to be around other people.
Lastly and maybe most vitale, is to find time to relax and reflect. Because if one is not calm and level headed when tne pressure is on, they could acedemically drown due to stress and confusion. Personally, music is my escape from sress and certain songs help me to reflect. But may vary for many others.
Whatever your methods to madness are, utilize you surroundings and inner personal skills. Because one could always use help and sometimes no one will be there and you can realize on nobody but yourself. Whatever your strategies are, strive to finish college and be the best and most successful person you can be.

Steps To Devlope Problem Solving Skills

College as well as other aspects of life can present problems. But it's all up to you how you handle the situations. Some people keep doing things how they've always done them. But hope they will get a different reaction every time. Many people are walking definitions of insanity. Which is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results and quit often getting the same response. Here is seven steps to help you through your problems.
The first step is to recognize the problem and define what it is. By doing this you need to look inside yourself and realize what causes this problem to occur. This first step is prbally the hardest becuse not many people want to admitt they have problems. An example of a problem is not monitoring your money and running out long before your next paycheck. It is probally because you don't have a budget and you just spend money speradically.
Next step would be ponder on positive solutions to your problem. Possible solutions for the problem would be to eat at home or pack lunches instead of eating out so often. Also, you could stop ordering takeout late at night. You could ask to speak to your boss and ask for a possible raise. Next, you could look for a better paying job. You could also recognize personal skills you possess and potetially start up your own buissness.
Step three would be to come up with expectations to help evaluate each option. If ones car isn't reliable, they should find a job closer to home. If one has always had a low paying job, they should higher their expectations and find a better paying job. If taking classes you need to keep in mind to find a job that will not hinder your grades.
Step four would be to look at each option proposed and evaluate them. Packing food from home is a decent idea because the food is already paid for. Stopping the ordering out of a midnight snack would help because these expenses add up quickly. Try not to ask your family for money becuase you dont want them to think your taking advantage of them. Try to find a better job. But if not possible utilize your skills and make money on the side. For example, starting up a little landscaping buissness during the summer.
Step five would be to take and follow through with the best possible solution. In this case could be taking a new job or even an extra part time job on campus or in an area close.
Step six would be to figure out the best way to follow through with your solution. You could become a tutor, apply for one of the offices, apply for the books store, or find some sort of restuarant around school.
Step seven would be to evaluate the results of your solution. If it's not for you find another job. Maybe it is working for you and out of no where it leads to someting better. If none of this has worked, reassess the situation and figure out another game plan.
We all run into problems and sometimes can turn into a daily thing. Just remember to keep your cool and evaluate the problem. Try to come up with a solution that works best for you and your circumstances. If you are having trouble coming up with solutions ask for help. Ask your parents or an advisor. Just make sure you resolve the problem no matter what it takes before it turns into something major

Ifluential Hinderances Stirring Up a Recipe of Disaster for College Successs

Not unlike many college students, i like to drink. Not so much physically, i just like the taste of my prescious bud light and jager bombs. But when you mix that with driving it is a cocktail of catostrophy and it is like a chain of bad events unravel.

One cool fall night in August of 2009 I made the decision of drinking with my prescription medicine. Inevitably I ended up in a car collision and was pretty seriously injured and minor injury to the driver in front of me. Unfortunaly, I was not wearing a seatbelt and had 240 pounds heading directly towards the windshield. Thank the person I hit was able to drive home but I went to the ER for a major head injury and also some torn mucsles in my ribs. Turns out that I hit the windshield with such force I sustained two bruises on my brain.

Durnig this whole process I had agreed to let police officers get samples of my blood.
Well, in mid Aug. my first court date rolls around my alcohol level isn't even at the legal limit.

While awaiting my drug levels to arrive I get pulled over yet again for DUI in between the middle and end of Dec. This time I did blow over the legal limit. But unfortunatly they found my cousins gun in the glove box, which he does have a permit for. Safe to say I went to jail that night.

To catch you up speed, my cousin is scheduled to graduate EKU this May with a degree in criminal law. He is interning at the police station with high hopes of becoming an officer. Well due to the fact that I pulled drunk in his car with a pistol in it, he came with in an inch of losing it all.
Well court rolls back around in Jan. and I get convicted of two DUI first and have fourteen days worth of weekends to serve as well as fines and lawyer fees out the ass.

Due to these weekends in jail I had to drop a class and have been struggling to stay afloat in the rest of my classes.

Because I about cost my cousin his career we parted ways by Feb. first and got seperate pads.
From now on, if I ever want to drink and drive i will stay at home and play a video game.

One needs to be truly focused and have the best concentration the can conjure up to conquer school. If u are not focused you will pay poor attention in class, take bad notes, do poorly in daily life, and do bad on test, etc.
